Phnom Penh: The Electricity Authority of Cambodia (EAC) issued a new notice on July 4, urging all electricity consumers who have installed and are using unauthorized solar power systems to come forward and declare their installations. Consumers must submit their declarations to their local private electricity supplier or directly to the EAC by August 15, 2024.
This renewed call follows an earlier notification issued on December 15, 2023, which instructed all electricity consumers with unauthorized solar power systems to self-declare their installations to the electricity supplier or EAC by January 31, 2024. However, compliance was low, prompting the EAC to extend the deadline.
The extension is intended to ensure that all solar system installations are properly documented and managed. Consumers now have until August 15, 2024, to submit their self-declarations.
In the latest announcement, the EAC also called on community leaders, including Dukes and Oknhas, as well as other users, to help disseminate the notice and assist in the self-declaration process within their respective supply areas. These leaders are asked to be ready to receive and submit the self-declarations of users.
The EAC has allocated seven days after the August 15, 2024 deadline for licensees to submit the self-declaration letters received from users to the EAC.
The EAC emphasized the importance of compliance, noting that consumers who submit their self-declarations within the stipulated timeframe will be recognized as authorized users. Those who fail to declare their systems within the specified period will face higher compensation costs and the potential for temporary suspension of their electricity supply from the national grid.
The EAC reiterated that unauthorized users who do not self-declare their solar power systems by the deadline will incur higher penalties and may experience a temporary halt in their electricity supply. This measure aims to enforce proper regulation and ensure the efficient use of solar power systems across Cambodia.
